Pony Espress O Cafe – Hidden West Perth Gem

Great use of small outdoor spaces

Great use of small outdoor spaces

Located at the back of a historical refurbished stable, down Mayfair Street in West Perth is a quirky new establishment that is a hidden Gem in West Perth.
Pony Express O (takes its name from the fact that it is located in the trendy, 1900’s built heritage listed Ashton Stables on Mayfair Street) makes great use of its unique environment that has somehow survived the corporate sprawl of its location.

Located down a lane at the back of the old stable, most West Perth workers would be unaware of its presence, yet for the well informed it offers a unique escape from the corporate grind.

Pony Express O makes a great use of its shaded outdoor space, with a long bench and artificial turf which somehow lures you into forgetting just where you are and encourages you to chat to the stranger sitting next to you.

The indoor space, the stable, is exposed face brick and features a long solid timber bench sprawled with the daily papers and magazines.

Garrett, of Blink Cafe in Fremantle, is a one man band here making great consistent coffee at his relaxed pace in this relaxed environment. The Coffee is fresh and is roasted by Crema – not my favourite blend in West Perth but is consistent and well made.

Bring your own lunch here as Pony Express O is pretty much just Coffee Shop apart from a few biscuits and cakes – it sticks to its knitting and what it does it does well.

Regular Coffees are $4.00 which is a little above average price for the area.

Location: Sydney, Australia I've been frequenting this cafe for almost a year now and they consistently deliver amazing coffee. Using Allpress beans , coffee is rich and full , always smooth and never ever bitter. Latte art is always great! Staff are lovely and always remember their regulars . The cafe also has a large seating area as well as outdoor seating. I wish more cafes were like this !

Cafe 54

Thu, 02 Sep 2010 07:27:09 PDT

In an area starved of consistent, quality coffee, Café 54 is already considered a stand out — pure liquid gold. Located in Pier Street at the east end of the city, the story behind Café 54 can be summed up with one phrase, ‘a journey for the perfect cup of coffee’.

Rwandan COE winners announced

Tue, 31 Aug 2010 21:50:46 PDT

Wow, what an awesome awards ceremony! I took a brief video of the hundreds of farmers singing in union to ‘welcome’ the ceremony. It was an exciting and memorable moment in my coffee career as we sat in the front row and heard our names called out individually to be recognised for our contribution to the competition, in front of a sea of Rwandan farmers. We have arguably the easiest job and I’m...

Omar And The Marvellous Coffee Bird

Tue, 31 Aug 2010 16:25:19 PDT

Vote for this cafe via HotShots This morning was filled with the usual flurry of ‘get out the door’ activity that is associated with a normal Wednesday. Thankfully, it was Helen’s turn to do the drop off and so, I navigated my way through the haze of rain and traffic up Nepean Hwy to this place! This place, appeared on our nominate a cafe form a few weeks ago, and I had heard from my spies...
