OK this one is a bit of a cheat. Its this weeks in my mug, but its still a new coffee. It also means you get a video (another cop out) but it has been very very tough to keep this pace up. I’ll be glad once the last one is done.
Its a special cup and I hope you get a chance to try it.

Some of the best coffee I've had in Europe!! Such a cool chilled out little cafe adjacent to a print shop (hence the name) selling a bunch of local artsy stuff. I had a Colombian through an Aeropress which was fantastic, and my long black was brilliant too. The staff are friendly, the cafe is bursting with atmosphere, prices are reasonable and most importantly the...

This place has all the right gear, products, atmosphere, staff with sufficient angular hair, red indie lipstick, guys with beards and plaid shirts. Front line customer service needs work, but barista was very nice. My largest concern was my 25 second brew Aeropress. Not great.

The Precision Shot Brewer

Xelsis is a great machine but you have to know how to get the milk hot.
The tube in the milk caraffe that comes with the machine was too large for making the milk hot. I was told by Saeco that Europeans liked their milk coffees a lot less hot than other countries liked it. That’s what Saeco claimed anyway !!!
To overcome this I replaced the silicon tubing in the milk caraffe with one with an interior diameter about half that of the original.
This reduces the flow of the milk so it gets heated more and the result is a great HOT cappucino or latte.
Don’t make the tube too thin though as when not enough milk gets through the dispenser will splutter.
Hi Bren, great comments and that’s why you want to buy from someone who knows about coffee, not the big box retailers.
A simple restrictor in the silicone hoses for the auto frothing machines can increase the milk temperature quite significantly.
Hi Paul,
Where do you get these simple restrictors? Can’t find anything on google..
We just got the Xelsis and love it, except the milk’s not hot enough.
Thanks!
Hi Bren,
thanks for this. I’m from Europe and I DON’T like less hot latte!
However, I do think that also my espresso could be hotter. I already put the settings on hotness of water to max but could be hotter still… Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul (from The Netherlands)
Hi Bren,
where can I buy such a silicon tubing?
Paul
Bren – my findings exactly with the xelsis. I had a demo of its functions and yes the foam was not hot. In fact a cappuccino was at best, warm. For that reason I didn’t buy it. I like your suggestion of decreasing the diameter of the pickup tube. Sounds reasonable. Will the foaming continue to the same fill amount as it would with the regular size tube? Or does it shut off as it does with say the Teleia Odea milk island. Those work on a timer. I wish Saeco would address this as I am holding off buying one until I can get hot milk or froth. Thanks
Wayne, reducing the diameter of the milk hose will only slow down the flow of milk, this means the milk is exposed to more steam and thus gets hotter…
Thanks for your comments!
Sorry for the delay in reply – just take yourself armed with that information to your nearest saeco service centre. Tell them to give us a call if they get stuck!
Hi There,
purchased some months ago, it’s really a great coffee maker.
