Yelo, located on Perth’s best stretch of beach where Trigg meets North Beach, is Perth’s answer to the “Home and Away” Summer Bay diner.
This relatively new makeover of what used to be the filthy yet popular Bennion Street Cafe is one of the few spots in Western Australia where you can sit back and enjoy a coffee over looking the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean.
North Beach locals Alec and Mike have done a tasteful yet modest makeover in creating Yelo which is part café, part provedore, part unique and organic home wares and part surf shop; and there is something very, very cool about having a good coffee in a surf shop while you check out the waves across the road.
The Coffee is always good and fresh, Fiori Coffee Espresso Blend on a Wega three group machine and as good as the best coffee along that stretch of coast. The food selection is always fresh and interesting, a little pricey to dine in regularly, but great for a treat.
The menu also consists of a selection of fresh juices and milkshakes and it is great to see someone finally offering kids sizes so that a family outing does not require a second mortgage. The kids are also entertained with a selection of toys and games and the spacious and casual vibe of Yelo certainly makes you feel like the kids are welcome.
To while away a few hours reading the paper, catch up with friends or just meditate looking over the magnificent view, Yelo really is one of Perth Coffee scene’s best kept secrets.
