Easter Eggfogato

Looking for that special something to serve to your guests after Easter lunch?

So were we, which is how we came across this #eggfogato twitter stream from @ozdj .

The Easter Eggfogato is @ozdj ’s (from Twitter) take on the affogato, served in an Easter egg. A word of caution however, this may take a while to server up for a large group and do not wait for the last guests Easter Eggfogato to be ready before you server the first – ot could be disastrous.

Step 1: Using 50g Red Tulip choc eggs. Internal volume almost 90ml which should give plenty of room

Step 2: Get a sharp knife, and make it hot over an open flame. Touching the blade now = stupid

Step 3: Quickly run the hot knife around the egg, about 2cm from the top. Do not press down hard

Easter Eggfogato Step 6

Step 4: Success! You have now “cracked open” your egg. Gimme a few mins as a need to do the 2nd one.

Step 5: Too big for an egg cup, you’ll need to find something to hold each egg in while you stuff them

Step 6: Using a teaspoon, carefully 1/2 fill the main section with vanilla or caramel ice-cream.

Step 7: OK, that bit is done. Next we’ll tackle the top sections.

Step 8: Completely fill the top sections with icecream. Again, carefully pack it in with a teaspoon.

Step 10: Remove the filled eggs from the freezer and allow to stand for 5mins. Get your espresso machine ready to roll.

Step 11: Extract your double espresso (or ristretto if you prefer).

Step 12: Carefully pour the espresso over the icecream inside the main section on the egg.

Step 13: Place a small dollop of ice cream on top of the espresso. Serve immediately. ENJOY!
